Yes, you can ask for a copy of your completed recognition of prior learning (RPL) assessment report. Whether the registered training organisation (RTO) can provide the full report depends on what records it created, its policies and any applicable privacy requirements. If there is no document called an “RPL assessment report”, you can still ask for a written explanation of the decision and information about the records available to you.
Contact the RTO that conducted your assessment and made the decision. Its assessor may have reviewed your work history, qualifications, examples of work and other evidence, but the RTO is responsible for its assessment records and any qualification or statement of attainment it issues. An RPL support service can help you understand the process or prepare an enquiry; it does not make the assessment decision or control which records the RTO releases.
If you worked with RPL Access Australia, check the name of the assessing RTO on your enrolment information or correspondence. Address your records request to that RTO, even if you initially sought advice elsewhere.
RTOs may use different documents and names for their records. Rather than requesting only an “assessment report”, ask whether you can receive copies of:
A record of assessment is not necessarily a polished report written for the applicant. Some assessment documents may also contain assessor working notes, information about other people or material the RTO cannot release in full. Ask what can be provided and why if your request is declined or only partly fulfilled.
If your RPL was successful, the qualification or statement of attainment issued by the RTO is separate from the underlying assessment records. Your Unique Student Identifier (USI) VET transcript may help you check reported training outcomes, but it is not a substitute for a detailed assessment record.
Send the RTO a short written request so there is a clear record of what you asked for. Include your full name, any previous name used during enrolment, your student number if known, the qualification or units involved and the approximate assessment date. Use a secure method to confirm your identity if the RTO asks; avoid emailing sensitive identification documents unless the RTO has provided an appropriate process.

Keep a copy of your request and the RTO’s reply. If you need the information for a deadline, tell the RTO when you need it, but do not assume it can meet that date.
First, ask the RTO to explain its decision and identify the relevant policy. In some circumstances, Australian privacy law gives individuals a right to access personal information held about them, subject to exceptions. Whether those rules apply to a particular RTO and record depends on the circumstances. The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner provides information about privacy rights and complaints.
If your concern is the assessment outcome rather than access to records, ask the RTO for its appeals process. Explain which units or findings you dispute and provide any relevant information you believe was overlooked. Accessing a report does not, by itself, change an assessment decision.
You can also check an organisation’s registration details on training.gov.au. An RTO’s assessment or appeals process is distinct from any later decision made by a licensing authority or a migration decision-maker. A successful RPL outcome does not guarantee a licence or visa outcome.
Ask the assessing RTO directly and be specific about the records you want. You may receive a copy of an assessment record, feedback or an explanation of your outcome rather than a document formally titled “RPL assessment report”.
