Yes. If you have developed skills through logistics or warehousing work, you may be able to apply for recognition of prior learning (RPL). That does not mean experience automatically becomes a qualification. An RTO must assess your skills and evidence against the requirements of the qualification or units you seek.
RPL is an assessment process that considers skills and knowledge you have already gained, including through paid work, previous training and other relevant experience. For a warehouse worker, that experience might involve receiving goods, maintaining inventory records, picking and packing orders, coordinating dispatch or supervising day-to-day operations.
The key question is not simply how many years you have worked. It is whether you can demonstrate the skills and knowledge required by the relevant units of competency. You can explore current qualifications and unit requirements on training.gov.au, the Australian Government’s national register for vocational education and training.
RPL may be worth exploring if you have worked in roles such as:
Job titles vary between workplaces. What matters most is the work you actually performed and how closely it matches a suitable qualification. For example, someone who regularly trains colleagues, monitors workflow and resolves stock discrepancies may have different evidence from someone whose duties focus on picking orders.
Start with records that show what you did, when you did it and the level of responsibility you held. Depending on the qualification and the RTO’s assessment requirements, useful evidence might include:
Protect your employer’s and customers’ information. Ask permission before sharing workplace documents and remove confidential details where appropriate. A certificate of employment can help establish your work history, but it may not, on its own, show how you performed a particular task. An RTO may request additional documents, a discussion, a practical demonstration or other assessment evidence.
Do not treat a qualification outcome and a licence as the same thing. Operating a forklift generally involves high-risk work licensing requirements, which are administered by the relevant state or territory regulator. RPL for vocational units does not itself grant, renew or replace a high-risk work licence. Check the requirements with your local work health and safety regulator before operating equipment that requires a licence. Safe Work Australia provides national work health and safety information, but it does not issue individual licences.
Look at the tasks you perform regularly rather than relying on your job title. Have you handled receiving and dispatch from start to finish? Used workplace systems to track stock? Followed safety procedures and dealt with problems when an order or delivery did not go to plan? Can you provide evidence of that work?
If much of your experience is relevant but some requirements are unfamiliar, ask the RTO about its assessment process and whether training may be needed for any gaps. The Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) regulates nationally recognised vocational education and training providers in most Australian jurisdictions. Before proceeding, confirm the RTO, the qualification and the assessment arrangements that apply to you.
RPL Access Australia can provide support and guidance as you consider a pathway and organise your evidence. The RTO—not RPL Access—assesses your application and decides whether the requirements have been met. If the applicable requirements are satisfied, the RTO is responsible for issuing the relevant qualification or statement of attainment.
Any licensing decision remains with the appropriate licensing authority. If you are considering a qualification for migration purposes, visa and skills-assessment requirements are separate matters determined by the relevant authorities; an RPL outcome does not guarantee a migration result.
If you have substantial logistics or warehouse experience, gathering a clear account of your duties is a practical first step. It can help you have a more useful conversation about whether RPL is suitable and what evidence an RTO may require.
