Can roofers use Recognition of Prior Learning to gain a qualification?

If you have spent years installing, repairing or replacing roofs, you may already have skills covered by a formal qualification. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) gives experienced workers a way to have those skills assessed against the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. So, can roofers use RPL to gain a qualification? Yes, potentially—but experience alone does not automatically result in a certificate.

How does RPL work for roofers?

RPL is an assessment process, not a shortcut around assessment. A registered training organisation (RTO) considers evidence of what you can do and compares it with the units of competency in the qualification you are seeking. An assessment can identify those gaps; it cannot simply overlook them. Any additional evidence, training or assessment will depend on the RTO and the qualification.
