Ageing Support RPL is how experienced aged care workers turn real, on-the-job experience into a nationally recognised, Certificate IV-level outcome — without sitting through training you've already mastered in the field.
If you've been coordinating care and services, supporting people living with dementia or requiring palliative care, developing individualised care plans, or taking on informal leadership within your team, much of what you already do lines up with the units assessed through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). Instead of starting a course from scratch, RPL lets a partner Registered Training Organisation (RTO) assess your existing evidence against those units.

This RPL pathway is built for people already working at a more senior or specialised level in aged care, including:
- Senior personal care workers in residential aged care

Ageing support RPL looks at the practical, day-to-day skills behind the job title, not just your resume. Assessors are typically interested in evidence of:
- Facilitating individualised service planning and delivery
- Supporting people living with dementia

- Advocating for the rights and interests of older people
- Coordinating services and interventions across a care team
- Demonstrating leadership and taking responsibility for others' outputs within limited parameters

Evidence You May Need
RPL assessment is conducted by an RTO. The following types of evidence are commonly discussed during RPL support consultations.
Every RPL application runs on evidence, not classroom hours. For an Ageing Support RPL application, you'll typically want to gather:
- Photo ID (for the RTO's 100-point identity check)
- An up-to-date resume or CV covering your relevant roles
- Position descriptions or duty statements confirming senior or specialised duties
- Employment contracts, payslips, or rosters confirming your role and timeframe
- Reference letters from care managers or supervisors verifying the duties you performed
- De-identified individualised care plans, progress notes, or incident reports you contributed to (with all client details removed)
- Evidence of any team leadership, mentoring, or shift coordination responsibilities
- First Aid and CPR certificates, if held
- Your Unique Student Identifier (USI), or the details to create one via the USI portal
