Individual Support RPL is how experienced support workers across disability, home care, and community settings turn real, on-the-job experience into a nationally recognised, Certificate III-level outcome — without sitting through training you've already mastered on the job.
If you've been supporting people with daily living, personal care, mobility, or social and emotional wellbeing — whether in a client's home, a group home, or the community — much of what you already do lines up with the units assessed through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). Instead of starting a course from scratch, RPL lets a partner Registered Training Organisation (RTO) assess your existing evidence against those units.

Who Individual Support RPL Suits
This RPL pathway is built for people already doing hands-on support work, including:
- Disability support workers
- Home care or home and community care workers
- Personal care assistants and community support workers
- In-home respite or NDIS support workers
- Support workers who work across multiple settings, not exclusively aged care

What This RPL Pathway Recognises
Individual support RPL looks at the practical, day-to-day skills behind the job title, not just your resume. Assessors are typically interested in evidence of:
- Supporting daily living, personal care, and mobility
- Following individualised support plans
- Supporting people with disability, complex needs, or reduced independence
- Working within WHS, infection control, and duty-of-care requirements
- Recognising and responding to changes in a person's condition
- Supporting people's social, emotional, and community participation

Evidence You May Need
RPL assessment is conducted by an RTO. The following types of evidence are commonly discussed during RPL support consultations.
Every RPL application runs on evidence, not classroom hours. For an Individual Support RPL application, you'll typically want to gather:
- Photo ID (for the RTO's 100-point identity check)
- An up-to-date resume or CV covering your relevant roles
- Position descriptions or duty statements from current and past employers
- Employment contracts, payslips, or rosters confirming your role and timeframe
- Reference letters from supervisors or coordinators verifying the support work you performed
- De-identified individualised support plans, progress notes, or care logs (with all client details removed)
- Your NDIS Worker Screening Check or equivalent, if applicable
- First Aid and CPR certificates, if held
- Your Unique Student Identifier (USI), or the details to create one via the USI portal
